Hailed as one of the ten best unsigned bands in New York City, Antigone
Rising holds true to its name. This Greenwich Village based all-female
band has much in common with it Sophoclean namesake -- drive, ambition,
and a strong desire to succeed. Antigone Rising's strengths include
driving vocals with infectious four-part harmonies, radio friendsly pop
arranged songs with sweeping acoustic guitar melodies, and a sturdy rhythm
section.
The band's energetic live performances pull capacity crowds to their feet
in such legendary nightclubs as Tramps, CB's Gallery, The Bitter End, and
the Mercury Lounge. Their independent debut CD "She's Gone A Little
Mad", released in April 1996, has sold over 5,000 copies. The most
recent release by the band, "Snapshot" (October 1998), is a
five-song EP of new material. Both CD's are available
online, and through
select music stores in the NY area, as well as at live performances.
Antigone Rising features sisters
Kristen Henderson (rhythm guitar/percussion/bkg vocals) and
Cathy Henderson (lead guitar/bkg vocals),
Dena Tauriello (drums),
Anne-Marie Stehn (bass),
and lead vocalist Cassidy.
Angtione Rising's major triumphs include performing at
Lilith Fair with Sarah McLachlan,
Natalie Merchant, Indigo Girls, and Liz Phair at
the Jones Beach Amphitheatre in New York this past July. The band was also
asked to perform with McLachlan at Bryant Park, NYC for a charity event
sponsored by Levi's to benefit homeless women. Other band highlights
include being selected amongst hundreds of national female acts to
showcase at WMBA's music conference in Nashville, TN, and being named one
of the top ten unsigned bands in NYC (1996) by Discmakers, Inc (1,500
participants). On November 10th, 1998, the band was featured at the
MuchMusic conference in Williamsburg, Virginia.
The women of Antigone Rising are friends foremost. Their commitment to
each other extends into the music they create together and their live
performances. Antigone Rising has what it takes to succeed -- motivation,
commitment, and a universal sound that is uniquely their own.
